What Size Bike Should I Buy?

Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned racer, choosing the right size bike can be daunting to any cyclist. Today there are so many different types of bikes from so many different manufacturers that choosing the right size has become a bit of a minefield. Different bikes all have subtle differences that can make a big impact when it comes to choosing the right size, so it's important to choose carefully.

Determining the correct size will depend on the type of bike, your height, your riding style and your personal preference. There is no definitive right or wrong size here. However, it’s important to choose a correct fitting bike as you’ll have greater comfort, control and efficiency, confidence and you’ll simply enjoy it more.

If you’re in the market for a new bike, we’d like to suggest a few pointers to help narrow down your choice.

How to measure for a bike:

First up, you will need to measure your height and your inside leg. These are key measurements that will help you find a bike that is best suited to your requirements.

If you find that you’re in between two different size ranges, your reach is often the deciding factor in which size to go for. Reach is essentially how long the bike feels when you’re in the riding position - either too stretched, too cramped or perfect.

You will need to get the perfect size frame as unlike handlebars and seats, you won’t be able to adjust the size of your bike frame. This leads us nicely onto our typical bike frame size guide.

Bike frame size guide:

To help, we’ve created a standard sizing guide to help get you started in finding your perfect bike size.

Please note that although we’ll do our best to guide you with our pre-owned bikes, we would recommend referring to the specific size guide of the bike brand provided on their product pages for your chosen bike.
